LAKELAND, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team regrouped after dropping game one to gain a split with Florida Southern Saturday afternoon at Henley Field in Sunshine State Conference action.
Following a tough 8-7 loss in the first game, the Bucs left no doubt in a commanding 15-2 victory in game two to gain the split.
Barry came back in the first game on Saturday similar to the game on Friday night, as Nick Shaw came through with a big two-run double to cut the Mocs’ lead to one in the ninth, but a strikeout followed Shaw’s double to help preserve the game one victory for Florida Southern.
Barry scored in five of the seven innings in game two, as the Bucs capitalized on a pair of errors in the first frame to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Yan Gomes delivered a two-run single in the second to give the Bucs a three-run lead.
Barry help put the game out of reach in the third, as four runs crossed the plate, as all four runs were unearned in the inning.
Gomes powered the offense with 3 RBI in game two, while Yas Gutierrez recorded three hits in six trips to the dish.
Brad McAllister (7-0) pitched well on the mound and benefited from the run support, as he went all seven innings, allowing just one earned run, while striking out six.
Barry will play at Rollins on Tuesday for a non-conference game beginning at 2 p.m.
