BOCA RATON, Fla.—The # 13 ranked Barry University women’s tennis team fought their way into the second round of the SSC Championship on Thursday afternoon, beating #20 Nova Southeastern 5-3.
The Bucs earned two points in doubles play as Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina defeated Justine Feaster and Ulia Talalenko 8-6 in the number one spot; and Berit Peterson and Caroline Wendling beat Mary Crider and Paige Lindsley 9-7 in the three spot.
The Bucs took the match by earning three points in singles, leaving one match unfinished. In the number two spot, Wendling beat Featser 6-1, 6-1. In the three spot, Kashelkina took down Edita Kulichova 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Finally in the number five spot, Peterson beat Elise Leeder 6-4, 6-1.
The Bucs will return to action in the semifinal tomorrow against the tournament’s #1 seed, Lynn at 8:30 am.
