WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Barry University men's golf team fell just short of capturing the Sunshine State Conference crown, as Nova Southeastern held on by five-strokes to hold off Barry and win the SSC Tournament Tuesday afternoon.

Nova 848 (290-275-283) bested Barry's 853 (286-280-287) to win the SSC title.

Carlos Velez stayed near the top of the leaderboard on the final round, as his 210 (72-66-72) placed him in third overall. Nova's Greg O' Mahony won the individual crown on a playoff against Florida Southern's Brian Richey, as each player fired a 207.

Chris Carlin had the best final round on the team Tuesday, as his 68 helped him cart home a 212 (74-70-68) and grab seventh overall.

Victor Billskoog's 213 (69-72-72) placed him right behind Carlin and placed him in eighth.

Daniel Stapff 220 (71-72-77) and Preston Roberts 225 (75-75-75) finished in 14th and 25th, respectively.

Barry will now prepare for the Division II Southeast Regional May 4-6 in Florence, Al., at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
