MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers closed out the 2009 softball season with a doubleheader sweep of the St. Thomas Bobcats on Senior Night, winning 4-0 and 8-0 in five innings.

On Senior Night, it was the Buccaneer seniors who propelled the team to victory. In game one, senior Amber Jack (21-11) tossed her 50th career shutout, the most in school history. She allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out seven. Senior Shyla Rider had three hits and scored a run in the third inning that proved to be the game-winner.

In the night cap, senior Natalie Heeley doubled home Amanda Goelz in the fifth inning to end the contest at 8-0 Barry. Rider scored twice after being hit by pitches and singled home a run in the fourth inning, while senior Ashley Likens added a two-run double in the third.

Freshman Brianna Smith (11-8) picked up the win, working four hitless innings, walking one and striking out six. Jack recorded a perfect fifth inning to complete the no-hitter.

Senior Brittany Anderson had three hits and scored twice in the doubleheader.

The senior class led the Bucs to a 159-46 record over the last four years. In addition to Jack’s record for shutouts, she also established marks for wins (91), strikeouts (756) and saves (10). Rider, who doubled to lead off game one, set marks for doubles (51) hits (254) and total bases (345).
