WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team came back late, but couldn’t come back all the way as Rollins defeated the Bucs, 10-7, Friday night in Sunshine State Conference action.

Rollins (26-23, 9-13 SSC) came out ready to go, taking advantage of some Barry errors in the first few innings to race out to a 3-0 lead.

The Tars kept the pressure on in the third, as Justin Yount delivered a clutch two-run triple to left field to expand the lead to six at 6-0.

After falling behind 8-0, Barry (43-8, 17-5 SSC) began to chip away.

A seven-run seventh got the Bucs back on track, behind big two big two-run hits each by Yudelmis Hernandez and Chris Leon to get within a run at 8-7. In the inning, six of the runs were unearned, as three errors helped lead to the big Barry seventh.

Bryan Bennett provided some insurance in the eighth, as his two-run blast over the scoreboard in right field provided the difference at 10-7.

Barry tried to rally in the ninth, but couldn’t get anything going after Yas Gutierrez leadoff the inning reaching on an error, the next three batters made outs to end the game.

Hernandez and Leon each paced the Bucs with two RBI apiece.

Barry will continue their series with Rollins on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
