WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, beating Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1 on the road.
The Bucs (9-1, 1-0 SSC) took set one 25-19. Julia Ridley led the offense for the Bucs in set one with five kills. Julia Teixiera and Milena Bukanic had four kills apiece.
In set two the Bucs held a slim lead at 23-21, but the Sailfish (3-5) fought back, taking the set 27-25.
Set three was all Barry as the Bucs stormed out to a 10-3 lead behind the offense of Ridley and Teixiera with the help of a number of Sailfish errors. Stefanie Sveiven and Lovisa Johansson would get involved in the action to help the Bucs to a 23-15 lead. The Sailfish tried to slow Barry’s momentum by taking a timeout, but a Teixiera kill and a PBA error gave the Bucs the set 25-15.
Set four was close through the early going as the game was tied at 7-7. The Bucs took eight of the next 14 points to take a slim lead at 15-13. Samara Ferreira would serve four aces in route to a Buccaneer win 25-17.
For the Bucs, Teixera had 16 kills while Ridley added 13 with a .440 attack percentage. Ferreira had six aces to aid the offense. Libby Walter had 43 assists while Spenser Rigg led the defense with 28 digs.
The Bucs return to action on at Florida Southern on Friday, September 25 at 7:00 pm.
