LAKELAND, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team dropped a four set heartbreaker to Florida Southern on Friday evening.
The #17-ranked Mocs (10-4, 3-0 SSC) used a strong offensive attack led by Natalie Arvizu to take set one 25-19. Arvizu had seven kills.
In set two, the Bucs and Mocs were even throughout the early going as the teams were tied 9-9 before three errors by the Mocs gave the Bucs a 12-9 lead. Three points still separated the Bucs and Mocs at 20-17 as Barry earned points off of kills by Lovisa Johansson, Samara Ferreira, Julia Teixiera, Stefanie Sveiven, and Julia Ridley.
The Mocs would stay close, tying it 23-23 late in the game before an atack error and a Milena Bukinac ace ended it 25-23 in favor of the Bucs.
The Mocs took extra time to take set three, but eventually won 27-25. Florida Southern took set four as well, winning 25-23.
For the Bucs, Sveiven led the offense with 15 kills while Teixiera added 10. Bukinac added five aces on offense. Libby Walter had 32 assists, while Amie Manke led the defense with 15 digs.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow on the road against St. Leo at 4:00 pm.
