LAKELAND, Fla.—It took overtime to decide the Sunshine State Conference matchup between the Barry women’s soccer team and the Florida Southern Moccasins that resulted in a 3-2 Buccaneeer loss.

The Bucs drew blood first after freshman Melissa Madrid poked a long pass from Lainie Farring past the diving Florida Southern goalkeeper from just inside the box at the 17:10 minute mark. The goal gives Madrid a team-leading six.

The next goal of the match was from Florida Southern on a penalty kick. Princess Haley put the ball at the top left of the net just past the out-stretched arms of Barry keeper Emily Pratt.

The next two scores came a mere 00:56 seconds apart. Again, Haley was fouled inside the Barry box and earned a penalty kick. Haley stroked the kick to the upper 90 in the side of the net. Then Michelle Tarasiuk earned a penalty kick as well. Tarasiuk’s penalty kick was saved but then blasted into the back of the net off the rebound by Tarasiuk with only 00:12 left to play in the first half.

The first half ended in a 2-2 tie. Neither team scored during the second period. Just over 4:00 minutes into the first overtime Florida Southern forward Kerri-Ann Brown bent a shot from 18 yards out through the pipes for the game winner.

Senior goalkeeper Pratt made several crucial saves during the second half to send the game to overtime. Pratt tallied a total of seven saves, four of which came during the second period.

Barry's next action is Wednesday at home against Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
