Men's Tennis: Fraitzl Takes Home Consolation Championship At Varner

WINTER PARK, Fla.—Barry junior Emanuel Fraitzl took home the consolation championship at the C.L Varner Memorial Invitational.

Fraitzl beat Palm Beach Atlantic’s Luke Bolanos 6-2, 6-2 to win the ‘A’ flight consolation championship. The doubles team of Simon Raagard and David Barragan also played in the consolation finals, falling 8-2 to the duo from Palm Beach Atlantic of Krasimir Atanosov and Bolanos. 

The tournament marks the end of the fall season for the men’s tennis team.
 
Tough Day At The Varner For Men's Tennis
 
WINTER PARK, Fla.—At the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational the Barry men’s tennis team continued action in day two with doubles pair of Max Wimmer and Marco Mokrzycki advancing to the semifinals in the doubles main draw but lose to Stetson’s Levanovich/Gallo.

Wimmer/Mokrzycki beat the Lander doubles team of Clark/Arrigoni 8-3. In the semifinals of the singles main draw flight B Max Wimmer was defeated by Stetson’s Cesare Gallo 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, and Mokrzycki also lost in the semifinals against Dan Regan from Armstrong Atlantic 7-5, 6-2.

Emmanuel Fraitzl beat Armstrong Atlantic’s Paul Fitzgerald 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 in the singles back draw. In the doubles back draw Fraitzl/Sergio Valez defeated the Florida Tech team of Strachan/Battagila 8-2. Fraitzl/Velez then played the Palm Beach Atlantic duo of Atanosov/Bolanos 8-4. Also in the doubles back draw Simon Raagard and David Barragan beat the Tolanko/Regan team from Armstrong Atlantic after the team withdrew. Then the Raagard/Barragan team faced Florida Tech’s Henry/Rodriguez and advanced to the doubles back draw final with an 8-4 win.

Consolation play continues tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m.
 
Men's Tennis Fares Well In "B" Flight and Doubles
 
WINTER PARK, Fla.—Marco Mokryzcki and Max Wimmer both reached the semi-finals of the “B” Flight at the C.L. Varner Invitational hosted by Rollins College on Friday. The pair also won their doubles match to advance to the second round.
 
Mokryzcki defeated Kermit Strachan of Florida Tech 6-3, 6-0 in the first round then took down Florida Southern’s Ben Taylor 6-2, 6-1. He will face Dan Regan of Armstrong Atlantic in the semifinals.
 
Wimmer knocked off Palm Beach Atlantic’s Tyler Dealy 6-1, 6-1 in the first round, and then beat John Coppabianca of Lynn 6-4, 6-4. He will face Stetson’s Cesare Gallo in the semifinals.
 
The pair teamed up to beat Dealy and Frank Moulton from PBA 8-4 to advance to the semifinals in the doubles draw.
 
The rest of the Buccaneer contingent did not fare so well. Top-seeded Ales Svigelj beat Lynn’s Levan Clark 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, but then had to retire in the second round to Rollin’s Neil Claussen after falling behind 6-0, 2-1.
 
Fourth-seed Emanuel Fraitzl fell in the first round to PBA’s Krasimir Atonosov 6-3, 7-6 (3). He came back to defeat Rollins’ Arturo Baravalle 6-2, 6-3 in the back draw. He will face Armstrong Atlantic’s Paul Fitzgerald in the semifinals tomorrow.
 
Sergio Velez won his first match, beating Stetson’s Njal Stene 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, but fell to AASU’s Dan Regan in the second round.
 
In doubles, Fraitzl and Velez fell to Florida Southern’s Roman Schirmaier and Guenther Fercher 8-6, while Simon Raagaard and David Barragan fell to second-seed Gallo and Maksim Levanovich of Stetson 8-5.  Both teams will continue in the back draw tomorrow.
