MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University volleyball team dropped their third straight SSC match on Saturday evening, losing 4-1 to Eckerd (25-16,25-23,20-25,25-8).
In set one, the Tritons (10-7, 4-4 SSC) got out to a 14-8 lead. The Bucs (10-7, 2-6 SSC) fought to stay in it, earning points off of kills by Stefanie Svieven, Ady Alcantara, and Samara Ferreira. However, the Triton offense proved too much, and the Bucs fell 25-16 in set one.
The teams were tied 6-6 and 9-9 early in set two. The Tritons took advantage of a Buccaneer error and a Taylor Manning kill to take a slim 11-9 lead. Eckerd would hold the two point lead until the end of the set, beating the Bucs 25-23.
Set three saw the Tritons push out to a 10-3 lead before the Bucs stormed back to tie it at 13-13. Alcantara had two aces and a kill in the run, while Julia Teixiera added a pair of kills. A number of Triton errors and a strong offense attack by the Bucs helped them to take set three 25-20.
A number of Buccaneer mistakes allowed Eckerd to take an 18-5 lead in set four. The Tritons offense finished off the Bucs, taking the set 25-8.
For the Buccaneers, Alcantara and Julia Ridley combined for 25 kills. Libby Walter and Julie Priester combined for 27 assists while Spenser Rigg had 15 digs on defense.
The Buccaneers return to action on Thursday, October 15 at home against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras at 7:00 pm.
