WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry men’s soccer team scored two goals in the second half to beat the #3 Rollins Tars 2-0 at Sandspur Field on Saturday, extending their winning streak to seven.

Barry (11-4-1, 5-2) junior Sascha Koettig scored both goals in the upset victory, giving the Tars their only loss on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Koettig’s first goal came at the 74:05 mark. Koettig took the ball on the right corner of the box, dribbled around and through several defenders to the middle of the box, and punched a shot into the side of the net. The 1-0 lead over Rollins (15-1-1, 6-1) marked the first time the entire season that the Tars have trailed in any game.

With 4:12 left to play, Rollins was awarded a penalty kick. Jacob Deloach took the kick for the Tars. With a 1-0 lead, freshman goalkeeper Johnny Rodrugues delivered a sensational save to preserve the shutout as well as the lead. Rodrigues tallied six saves in the match.

The second Koettig goal came with just over 00:30 left to play. Barry junior Mark Kilpatrick sent a deep pass for Kendall Sealy, but Rollins goalkeeper Aaron Rokeach tried to clear the pass from 40 yards outside of his goal. Sealy partially blocked the Rokeach clearance and the ball caromed to Koettig at midfield. Koettig blasted a shot from 50 yards out into the back of the net, securing the win. The two goals give Koettig six on the season.

Shortly after the second Koettig goal, the horn sounded and the Barry Buccaneers stormed onto the field in celebration.

The next game for the Bucs is Thursday against conference foe and rival #20 Lynn at the McCusker Sports Complex in Boca Raton, Fla. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 3:00 pm on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
