Volleyball Takes Down Florida Southern

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team put a four set beat down on Florida Southern on Saturday evening, winning 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 29-27).
 
The Bucs (12-10, 3-8 SSC) and Mocs (14-14, 5-7 SSC) were tied 9-9 early in set one before the Bucs went on an 9-3 scoring run which included kills by Ady Alcantara, Julia Teixiera, Samara Ferreira, Stefanie Svieven, and Julia Ridley. The Mocs snapped back to take two points to put the score at 19-14. Yet the Bucs pushed through, and went on to take set one 25-20.

In set three the teams were again tied early at 8-8 and traded points back and forth through 13-13. The Bucs took a two point lead off a Lovisa Johansson kill and a Moc error to go up 15-13. After a Moc timeout, Florida Southern took the next two points to again tie the score at 15-15.
 
Barry went on a four point run, capped off by a Libby Walter kill. The Bucs were too strong down the stretch, winning 25-20 with the help of a Spenser Rigg ace and three kills by Alcantara.
 
In set four, the Bucs went up multiple times. Yet every time the Bucs took the lead, the Mocs fought back. Tied at 23-23 late in the game, the Bucs and Mocs traded points back and forth through 26-26 at which point Florida Southern earned a one point advantage off of a Natalie Arvizu kill.
 
The Bucs tied it 27-27 off a Florida Southern error, and took the final two points off a Spenser Rigg service ace and a Libby Walter kill.
 
For the Bucs, Teixiera had 15 kills while Svieven added 11. The remaining Buccaneer hitters combined for 25 kills. Rigg earned 27 digs and Svieven had 4 blocks. Walter had 34 assists.
 
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, November 3 at home against Lynn at 7:00 pm.
