MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University volleyball team won their third-straight SSC match on Friday night, beating the Rollins College Tars in five sets (24-26, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-6).

Though the scores were close, the Bucs dropped the first two sets, losing set one 26-24 and set two 25-22.

The Bucs took set three in a dominant style, winning 25-15. Though only up by a point at 10-9, the Bucs took 15 of the next 21 points to take the win 25-15. Julia Teixiera had seven kills in set three and Samara Ferreira added three total blocks.

In set four the teams traded points back-and-forth throughout much of the match. Rollins took small leads, up two at 5-3 and 7-5. Tied at 19-19 the Bucs took three straight points off of two Tar errors and an Ady Alcantara kill to go up 22-19. Barry took three more points to Rollins’ two to win the match 25-21.

The Bucs went up 4-1 to open set five. Rollins fought to stay in it, but the Buccaneer offense, powered by Teixiera was too strong down the stretch. Teixiera had three kills while Julie Priester added two of her own to help the Bucs to a 15-6 win in set five, and a 3-2 win in the match.

For the Buccaneers, Teixiera had 29 kills. Julia Ridley and Ferreria combined for 21. Priester and Libby Walter shared 53 assists. On the defensive side of the Ball, the Bucs were relentless as Spenser Rigg had 45 digs. Ferreira put on a clinic, tallying three solo blocks and four combined blocks for seven total blocks. Combined, the Buccaneer front row had 18 blocks.

In addition to the exciting win, the Buccaneers celebrated senior night, honoring four players from the squad: Ferreira, Priester, Ridley, and Rigg.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon at home against Florida Tech at 2:00 pm.
