Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Georgia College

DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball opened regular season competition on Friday evening with a 71-54 loss to Georgia College.
 
The Bucs (0-1) scored the first four points of the game as Mariessa Greene hit two layups to put the Bucs up. This was the largest and only lead the Bucs would have as the Bobcats (2-0) went on a 22-3 run to go up 22-7 midway through the first half.
 
Though the Bucs would outscore the Bobcats 18-17 in the final ten minutes of the half, Georgia College went into halftime with a 39-25 lead.
 
The Bucs fought back in the second half, cutting the lead down to eight, 45-37, with 15:16 remaining in the game before Georgia College pushed it back to 12, 51-39, with 11:32 remaining.
 
The Bucs got within seven multiple times in the second half, and even cut the lead to four, 58-54, with4:26 remaining. Yet the Bobcats would score 13 unanswered points down the stretch to take the 71-54 win.
 
Greene led the way for the Bucs, scoring 17 points and grabbing eight boards. Christina Thompson chipped in with 12 points and Tilde Ahlin had 10.
 
The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon against Armstrong Atlantic State at 2:00 at Nova Southeastern.
