PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball team used strong second half play to take a 67-48 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs (9-4) were strong through the early part of the first half. Their largest lead of the half came with 13 minutes remaining when Tara O’Malley hit a three-pointer to put the Bucs up 15-9.
The Sailfish (4-10) fought back over the next six minutes, cutting the lead to one, 22-21, with 7:28 remaining in the half. The Bucs would enter halftime up 31-25.
The Bucs were dominant in the second half, holding the Sailfish scoreless through the first nine minutes while running off 15-straight points to take a 46-25 lead.
Barry’s largest lead of 29 came with 4:06 remaining when Anika Rivera drove the lane and laid the ball in the basket. The Bucs would reach a 29 point lead twice more before finally going on to win by 19, 67-48.
For the Buccaneers, Mariessa Greene earned a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Tilde Ahlin had nine points and seven boards while Jennifer Lopez added eight points.
The Bucs return to action at home on Wednesday, January 13 for a Code Red game against Florida Tech at 5:30 pm.
