MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University men’s basketball team dropped a fourteen point halftime lead and fell to the Nova Southeastern Sharks 74-72 on Saturday in the Health and Sports Center.
The Bucs (11-4, 3-2 SSC) took a commanding 10 point lead midway through the first half when Evan White hit a three-pointer to put the Bucs up 17-7.
Fueled by seventeen combined first half points by Erick Nsangou and Willie Whitfield, the Bucs stretched their lead to 28-9 and entered halftime up 43-29.
The Bucs remained on top by eleven, 63-52, with 6:06 remaining in the second half before Nova (9-6, 3-3 SSC) went on a 19-8 run over the next five minutes to tie the game at 71-71 with 43 seconds remaining.
Willie Whitfield sank a free-throw with 19 seconds to put the Bucs up 72-71, but a Rob Hunnington three-pointer with three seconds remaining gave the Sharks the 74-72 victory.
Nsangou led the Buccaneers with 16 points. Tony Dennison had 13 and Whitfield and Evan White chipped in 12 apiece.
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday, January 20 at Lynn at 7:30 pm.
