MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Willie Whitfield and Erick Nsangou both recorded double-doubles as the Barry Buccaneers devoured the Saint Leo Lions 75-60 in Sunshine State Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday night in the Health & Sports Center.
The Bucs (13-5, 5-3 SSC) broke open a tight game with an 8-0 run to start the second half, capped by a layup by Whitefield at the 16:28 mark that put Barry up 48-37. Though the Lions (8-13, 2-6 SSC) trimmed the lead to five on a couple of occasions, the Bucs pushed the lead back to 10 points, 59-49, at the 8:08 mark on another layup by Whitefield and the Lions never got closer than nine the rest of the way.
Whitefield had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Nsangou added 16 points and 16 boards. Tony Dennison led all players with 21 points. Josue Vazquez led four Lions in double figures with 13 points, while Jordan Prais had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bucs travel to Florida Southern on Saturday to take on the Moccasins in Jenkins Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
