MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball team took a dominating 75-50 win against the Lynn University Knights (15-10, 7-8 SSC) on Wednesday evening. With the win, the women clinch home court hosting rights in the first round of the BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference basketball tournament.

The Bucs (18-8, 9-6 SSC) got out to a 12-0 lead in the first half when Christina Thompson sank a three-pointer.  After Lynn’s Madeleine Doyle hit a layup in the lane, the Bucs took ten straight points, getting out to a 22-2 lead with 13:22 remaining in the first half.

The Bucs dictated play in the first half, allowing the Knights to score only 20 points to Barry’s 40.

Lynn opened the second half with a three-pointer by Kira Harvey, but that was all the offense the Knights would score for five minutes. Meanwhile Barry pushed out to a 50-26 lead.

The Bucs’ largest lead of the game, 35, came when Thompson hit a three-pointer with 9:20 remaining to give the Bucs a 63-28 lead.

For the Buccaneers, Mariesa Greene finished with 15 points and four rebounds. Shanna Suttington notched 14 points of her own and Christina Thompson earned 10 points.

The women return to action on Saturday, February 27 when they visit Saint Leo at 2:00 pm. The Bucs will host the first round of the BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference basketball tournament on Wednesday, March 3. Their opponent is unknown at this time.
