St. Leo, Fla.—The second-ranked Barry Buccaneers continued their winning ways with an 8-1 trouncing of Saint Leo at the SLU Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Bucs (6-0, 4-0 SSC), playing a highly edited version of their lineup, swept the singles and took two of three doubles.
Max Wimmer and Emanuel Fraitzl, ranked #9 in the ITA poll, beat Yves Jacobs and Jose Morales 8-4 at the top flight, while David Barragan and Ruben Penate, playing together for the first time, crushed Tim Balz-Herrmann and Michael Calloway 8-1 at number three.
The Lions (1-7, 0-1 SSC) took their only point at number two doubles as Pablo Chavez and Richard Maclachlan edged Simon Raagaard and Jakub Fejfar 8-5.
The Bucs swept the singles. At number one, #11 Marco Mokrzycki shut down Chavez 6-3, 6-0. Andrew Sharnov, moving up from five to two, made short work of Jacobs 6-2, 6-3, while Sergio Velez, usually six, defeated Morales 6-4, 6-2 at number three.
At the bottom three flights, the Bucs were even more dominant. Raagaard beat Maclachlan 6-4, 6-0 at four, while Fejfar shutout Balz-Hermann 6-0, 6-0 at five. Barragan completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Calloway.
The Bucs head to St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday to face the Eckerd Tritons.
