Women's Tennis Downs Tigers

MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry women’s tennis team remains undefeated on the season with a 9-0 win over #7 NAIA ranked Brenau on Monday.

The top doubles team for Barry of Barbi Pocza and Yulia Kashelkina defeated the Brenau pair of Lyn See Choo and Kate Mazackova 8-4. The Pocza/Kashelkina duo continues their undefeated ways moving to 4-0 as a team. At the number two spot was Angie Werschel and Mia Fiocca with an 8-2 win over Liubov Orlova and Jolene Wong. Concluding doubles play, Julie Stas partnered with Darya Yablonskaya for an 8-2 win against Hannah Thompson and Eline Nagels.

Singles play for the Buccaneers lead to the same dominance as doubles play. Barry took all six singles matches with Pocza at the top of the lineup taking a 6-2, 6-2 win. Pocza now sits at 4-0 in singles play for the season and 5-0 for doubles play.

At number two, Angie Werschel defeated Kate Mazackova 6-0, 6-3. The junior moves to 5-1 with her only singles blemish of the season coming in the first match of the year against Embry-Riddle.

Kashelkina has yet to lose a singles or doubles match this year and defeats Jolene Wong 6-1, 6-2 at the number three spot in the lineup.

At number four freshmen Fiocca defeats Hannah Thompson 6-1, 6-0. Juliet Serabien took down Brenau’s number five Liubov Orlova 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out singles was Caroline Wendling who blanked Eline Nagels 6-0, 6-0.

The Buccaneers post their third straight 9-0 win and fourth on the season. Barry has only lost five individual matches all year.

The next action for the Bucs is March 10, against West Florida at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
