DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team held off Nova Southeastern in a non-conference decision on Thursday night. The Bucs won 9-8.

Barry scored one run in the first inning when Nick Shaw crossed on a Manny Pedrozo single. However, the Sharks (9-10) went up 3-1 after the first when Luis Penate, Brayan Valencia, and Rhys Roberts scored.

The Bucs (8-5) tied it up 3-3 in the top of the fourth when Matt Petty and Drew Dwelly scored. Petty got home on a Nova error while Dwelly scored on a Julio Ramos single. The Sharks however again took a lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bucs scored six runs over the next three innings compared to Nova’s two to take a 9-6 lead. Chris Leon, Shaw (2), Jack Valdez, Ramos, and Dwelly scored runs to give the Bucs the lead.

The Sharks got close, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth to bring the score to 9-8. However Barry’s defense held up and the Bucs earned the win.

For the Buccaneers, Shaw had one hit in three at bats, driving in one RBI and scoring three runs. Charley Short earned the win, moving to 3-1 on the season. Scott Sexton got the save, his sixth of the season.
