Softball Powers To Two Wins To Close Spring Break Trip

CARROLLTON, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers broke out the long ball on Sunday to take two games to close out the 2010 Wolves Invitational, beating West Georgia 5-3 and Georgia Southwestern 8-0. The Bucs clubbed three homers, two by Jessica Tabor in the two wins.

In the first game, Kayla Monroy got the Bucs out in front with her first career homer, a two-run shot in the second inning and Tabor added a solo shot in the fourth. Amber Durkin provided the winning margin with a two-run single later in the fourth.

Paula Mackin (8-1) earned the win with a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits. She walked four and struck out five.

In the second game, Jessica Bevlin (2-2) tossed a five-inning complete-game shutout past the Hurricanes (10-13). She allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter, striking out one.

Tabor had an RBI double in the first and a three-run homer in the fourth. Sarah Broeseker had an RBI double in the fifth inning to give the Bucs the early exit.

The Bucs return to Buccaneer Field on Tuesday, Mar. 9 at 5:00 pm, taking on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic.
