MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers split a softball doubleheader to the Molloy Lions on Tuesday night at Buccaneer Field, losing 1-0 but taking the second game 8-3.
In the nightcap, the Bucs (19-10) busted open a 1-1 ballgame with a seven-run fourth inning. Jessica Tabor delivered the big blow, a three-run double, while Cassy Zamora, Brianna Smith and Grace Collins all drove in single runs.
Jessica Bevlin (3-4) came on in relief of Smith in the fourth inning and worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam. She picked up the win when thanks to the Bucs explosion. She work 3.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits, walking one and striking out six.
In the opener, Paula Mackin (10-3) came out on the short end of a pitching duel with Megan Butterworth (2-1), with both going the distance. Mackin allowed one run on five hits and a walk, while striking out five. Butterworth scattered four hits and three walks in tossing the shutout. She struck out five as well.
The only run scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Alexandra Sydor.
The Bucs only got one base runner, Kayla Monroy with a lead-off walk in the second, aboard with less than two outs.
The Bucs host the Hillsdale Chargers on Wednesday, Mar. 17 at 4:00 pm in a doubleheader.
