Two Innings Over Two Games Defeats Softball

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry softball teams droped back-to-back gut-wrenchers to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish; 6-5 in game one and 2-1 in game two on Tuesday.

Both games ended in walk-off fashion for the Sailfish.

In game one, Barry posted two runs in the first at bat as Amanda Goelz blasted a two-run, two-out shot to left field scoring Jessica Tabor. Barry then added another run in the second inning when Grace Collins singled in Kayla Monroy on a two-out single through the left side of the infield.

The Buccaneers then posted two more runs, one in the fourth from a Cassy Zamora bunt scoring Amber Durkin, and one in the sixth off a Tabor solo shot to right center field.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brianna Smith put the first two batters on then was relieved by Paula Mackin. PBA’s Chelsea Gravini tripled down the right field line scoring two and tying the game at 5-5. Natalia Ojeda then singled to left field, driving in Gravini, and ending the game.

Jessica Bevlin took the circle in game two and pitched brilliantly. Bevlin threw six and two third innings, giving up only one hit. The Barry defense committed two costly errors in the bottom of the seventh inning allowing two runs to score.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bevlin walked the leadoff batter then surrendered her only hit, putting runners on the corners with one out. After a Cassy Zamora error at second scored the tying run, a Tabor errant throw to third scored the winning run.

The next action for the Buccaneers is Friday, April 9, starting a three-game series against Nova. The first game of the series starts Friday at 7:00 p.m. Coverage of the entire series can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
