Women's Tennis Grounds the Seahawks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—In senior day action, the Barry women’s tennis team defeat the Northwood Seahawks 8-1 on Saturday.

After the Barry University Athletic Department and the women’s tennis team recognized seniors Berit Peterson and Yulia Kashelkina, both players took home wins in the regular season finale. The Buccaneers dominated singles play and tallied a sweep.

Peterson played in the number four spot in the singles lineup and defeated Christine Novakova 6-4, 6-1. Kashelkina played Mikaela Sager at the top of the singles lineup and posted a 6-3, 6-1 win as well.

Caroline Wendling beat Fiorelia Moggia 6-3, 6-1 at number two singles. Mia Fiocca defeated Priselia Duarte 6-0, 6-0. Darya Yablonskaya won 6-1, 6-1 against Kristin Stickney at the fifth position and Northwood forfeited the finals singles spot due to illness on the team.

Barry only played two doubles matches and registered a split. At number one doubles, Peterson teamed up with Fiocca and fell 8-5 to Northwood’s Seger/Moggia combo. Angie Werschel and Julie Stas made quick work of Duarte and Novakova with an 8-1 win.

The next challenge for the Bucs is the SSC Tournament starting April 15. Barry sits at the top of the conference standings with an 8-0 conference mark.
