LAKELAND, Fla.—In opening round action of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, the Barry men’s tennis team rolled through the Saint Leo Lions 5-0 on Thursday.

The match started with doubles play and the Buccaneers took the sweep starting with the top doubles team of Ales Svigelj and Max Wimmer. The Barry pair defeated Yves Jacobs and Tim Balz-Herrmann 8-3. At number two doubles, the veteran pair of Sergio Velez and Emanuel Fraitzl defeated Saint Leo’s Pablo Chavez and Richard Maclachlan 8-2. Completing the sweep, senior Andrew Sharnov and freshman Marco Mokrzycki blanked the pair of Jose Morales and Michael Calloway 8-0.

Barry only needed two singles wins to finish the match and grabbed wins from Max Wimmer at number two singles and Simon Raagaard at number four singles.

The rest of the matches were unfinished. The singles lineup for the Bucs was Fraitzl and number one, Wimmer and number two, Sharnov at number three, Raagaard at number four, Jakub Fejfar at number five and David Barragan at number six singles.

Barry advances to play host Florida Southern Friday, April 16 at 9:00 a.m. On Feb. 18, the Buccaneers defeated the Florida Southern Mocs 7-2 in Miami Shores. The Mocs are the #3 seed in the SSC Tournament.
