Women's Tennis Rolls in SSC Tourney

LAKELAND, Fla.—The top seeded Barry women’s tennis team had zero problems against the #8 seed Eckerd Tritons in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with an 5-0 win on Thursday.

Barry (19-3, 8-0) only lost one set in both doubles and singles play the entire day to the Tritons. In doubles play, the #6 team of Barbi Pocza and Yulia Kashelkina took a smooth 8-0 victory over Emmy Laing and Amanda Teets at number one doubles.

The only set the Buccaneer dropped came at number two doubles as Angie Werschel and Julie Stas took an 8-1 win over Stephanie Jenks and Marion Ironside. The number three doubles was won by the senior/freshman combo of Berit Peterson and Mia Fiocca 8-0.

The only two completed singles matches for the Buccaneers were #12 Werschel with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jenks and #40 Kashelkina with another 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Teets.

Barry advances to play Rollins tomorrow in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. In the regular season the Buccaneers defeated Rollins 8-1 on March 20th.
