WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry softball team needed to take the series against the Rollins Tars to secure a regional bid, but lost game one 6-2 then dropped game two 1-0 in extra innings on Sunday.

Due to the threat of rain on Sunday, the start time of the double header was moved to 11:00 a.m. In game one, Barry drew blood first after scoring one in the top of the first when Amber Durkin scored on an error by the Tars right fielder.

Rollins took their first lead of the game in the bottom of one by scoring two. The Tars extended the lead to two runs in the second when Kaycie Bevis hit a solo shot to over the left field fence.

After two scoreless innings, Barry cut the lead down to one on a wild pitch form Tars pitcher Christine Roser. Taylor Newman scored on the wild pitch and took the score to 2-3 in the fifth.

Rollins then took a commanding lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on first and second, lead-off batter Lauren Caldwell homered to right field, taking the Rollins advantage to 6-2 and inserting the final nail in the Barry coffin in game one.

Paula Mackin threw for the Bucs in game one and pitched six complete innings, giving up six runs while striking out four.

Game two had a completely different feel, as the affair was dominated by both pitchers. For Barry, Jessica Bevlin threw 7.1 innings only allowing five hits. On the other side, Kirsten Frame tossed 8.0 innings and also allowed five hits.

The game took extra innings to decide, but in the bottom of the eighth Brittney Pumpelly for the Tars scored to end the game in walk-off style. Pumpelly singled on a bunt then stole second. The Tars laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Pumpelly to third and Krista Rodden singled down the right field line to end the game.

The next game for the Bucs is the last game of the season. Barry hosts St. Thomas on senior day, with the game scheduled to commence at 4:00 p.m. Coverage of the softball season finale can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting shortly before the start.
