PHILADELPHIA, P.A.—The Barry rowing team captured a second-place finish at one of the biggest regattas in the country.
The varsity 8+ crew took second place with a time of 07:11.83 at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta 2010. The only team to best the Bucs was Mercyhurst by a mere four seconds. Mercyhurst finished in first with a time of 07:07.18.
The crew posted better times than Seattle Pacific, Grand Valley, Florida Tech, and Philadelphia University.
On Friday, Barry qualified for the Dad Vail Finals with a blazing time of 06:44.53. In the heat, the Bucs beat the field by over 00:04 seconds.
Leading the team to their outstanding finish was cox-Grace Horwitz, stroke-Kelly Harrison, 7-Vanessa Viadero, 6-Rebekah Evans, 5-Brielle Bowers, 4-Jaimee Lampard, 3-Katie Rogers, 2-Summerlin Knipe, and bow-Nicki Marek.
In the Varsity 4+ competition (cox – Kadi Karam, stroke – Brianne Misner, 3-Renee Forcier, 2-Courtney Greene, bow-Helene Pierre), Barry finished fourth in their heat on Friday with a time of 07:47.19.
The next step for the Bucs is waiting to see if they receive a bid in the NCAA National Regatta in Sacramento, Calf.
