Baseball Wraps Up Season With A Loss to UM

CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team wrapped up the 2010 season on Saturday night with an 11-1 loss to the Miami Hurricanes.
For the second night in a row, the Bucs struggled against the solid pitching of the Canes. Miami’s pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts and only allowed three Buccaneer hits.
The Canes (36-11) got out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning off of three hits, including a homerun, and a walk. Michael Broad singled for the Canes and came in moments later when Chris Palaez got a hit. With Palaez and Scott Lawson on base, Harold Martinez hit a homer to leftfield to put the score at 4-0. Miami scored one more in the first off a Zeke DeVoss single that scored Nathan Melendres.
The Bucs (32-19) lone run came in the fourth inning when Drew Dwelly was walked, stole second and reached third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Canes went on to score five more runs including four in the eighth. DeVoss hit a solo homer and moments later David Villasuso jacked a two-RBI blast to left to score Scott Lawson and Stephen Perez.
For the Buccaneers, Scott Sexton took the loss. He goes to 2-6 on the season. Jason Santana took the win for the Canes. He moves to 5-2 for the season.
