DAHLONEGA, Ga.—The final game of their road trip for the Barry men’s soccer team road trip ended in a 1-1 tie against the North Georgia Saints on Sunday.
Sascha Koettig scored his third goal in three games to give Barry the first lead of the game at the 26:33 mark. Sophomore Guilherme Oliveira started the attack for Barry and passed the ball to Joe Conkleton on the left wing 15 yards from the touch line. Conkleton’s service then found the foot of Koettig for the quick goal.
“We have some decisions to make as a team,” head coach Steve McCrath said. “Our defense and our keeping are incredible right now. Our attack is just not playing to its potential right now.”
The half ended with Barry leading North Georgia 1-0. The Bucs tallied four shots on goal in the first period.
The equalizer came for North Georgia in the second half when senior defender Ben Chedgy headed a long throw in past Barry keeper Johnny Rodrigues.
The Buccaneer attack totaled 15 shots and seven on goal. Five of the shots and four of the shots on goal came from Mark Anderson. With the score tied in the 63rd minute, Anderson weaved his way through traffic to earn a one-on-one opportunity against the Saints keeper but to no avail.
“We started off well,” Anderson said. “We capitalized on the first chance we had. In the Second half we came out a bit sluggish. Personally, I was very frustrated with the way I played. I thought there were some opportunities that I should have taken advantage. But we are still undefeated and we have to move on.”
In the second over time, with the clock dwindling, Barry earned a free kick from forty yards off the goal. The free kick was lofted into the box and found the boots of Anderson, but Anderson came up empty after another Rade Tanaskovic save.
Barry heads home to play Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at Buccaneer Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with the radio broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m.
