MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Two days after a disappointing loss to Florida Memorial, the Barry Buccaneers rebounded with their best game of the season on Monday night, beating the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 5-0 at Buccaneer Field.

Emma Karp had two goals and an assist and Silvia Lugo scored the game-winner in the 19th minute, while freshman Mikaela Barboza worked a clean slate in goal in her first collegiate start, making three saves.

“I think we came out too laid back on Saturday night,” head coach Fred Jungeman said after the match. “I think we expected to come out and it was going to be easy for us. Tonight we came out from the first minute and put a lot of pressure on them and it paid off.”

Lugo got the Bucs on the board in the 19th minute with ultimately the only goal they would need, stealing the ball from a Sailfish defender and racing in one-on-one with keeper Allison Fox.

In the 23rd minute, Karp launched a long center pass through the PBA defense and Melissa Madrid ran on to it, touched it around Fox and scored into the empty net.

Karp scored two goals of her own within 6:28 of each other in the second half. Madrid returned the favor with a cross from the right side that Karp flicked over Fox with her head in the 48th minute. In the 54th minute, Morgan Ault sent a long pass out of the back and Karp collected it, spun right past the defense and slotted it home.

Miranda Goransson closed out the scoring in the 74th minute, taking a long free kick from Chelsea Stoeckigt that bounced over the head of a PBA defender and gave Goransson a one-on-one chance with Fox.

Barry out-shot the Sailfish 22-4, but Fox kept things from being even worse with 10 saves.

The Bucs travel to Georgia this weekend to face Georgia Southwestern (Friday, 5:00 pm) and Georgia College (Sunday, 1:30 pm).
