JACKSON, Tenn.—The Barry men's soccer team dropped their first match of the year in a 3-2 loss to the Lambuth Eagles on Saturday.

The first goal of the game came at the 30:32 mark off a Lambuth corner kick that was incidentally headed into the Barry goal by Joao Garcia. Lambuth's first goal of the match marked the first time this season Barry has ever trailed.

The Buccaneers finished the half down by a score of 1-0.

The Buccaneers upped the pressure at the very beginning of the second half. Only 01:35 into the half, Mark Anderson took a Sean Trinidad pass and blasted it past the Lambuth keeper. Andres Perez started the play and Trinidad launched a 30-yard pass behind the Eagles defense. Anderson then tied the game at 1-1.

The next goal of the match gave Barry the lead with just over 24:00 minutes to play. After the Bucs earned a corner, Garcia made up for his own goal with a score that gave Barry their first lead of the match. Joe Conkleton served the corner into the box and Sascha Koettig flicked a header to Garcia at the mouth of the goal. Garcia then bodied the ball into the back of the net for his first strike of the year to give Barry a 2-1 advantage.

Lambuth answered the Garcia goal in the 83rd minute when the Eagles' Adam Grant was tackled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Grant's penalty kick in the upper 90 tied the game at 2-2.

The situation went from bad to worse for the Buccaneers after Daniel Ericsson scored with 2:45 to play. A Barry passed caromed off a defender and fell to the feet of Ericsson. His shot from 20 yards out just crept under Johnny Rodrigues (3-1-2) and into the back of the net.

Barry saw many opportunities come and go with little success throughout the game. The Buccaneers tallied 15 shots and five shots on goal.

The next match for Barry is tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 25. The match starts at 3:00 p.m. CST with coverage on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting at 2:30 p.m. To listen to the game and watch the live stats, click on the Game Central logo at the Barry athletics homepage.
