ST. LEO, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers played to a 2-2 draw with the Saint Leo Lions at University Field on Saturday night in Sunshine State women’s soccer action.
The Lions (3-4-1, 0-1-1 SSC) had the first and last words, scoring in the sixth minute for the early lead and in the 80th minute to force the tie.
The Bucs (6-2-1, 2-1-1 SSC) continued to be a second half machine. Emma Karp connected on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to even the game, her third game-tying goal this season.
In the 69th minute, Lainie Ferring was in the right place at the right time as Lion keeper Audrey Bernier Larose came off her line to try to clear the ball, but knocked it right to Ferring who wasted no time in chipping it in from 40 yards out to give the Bucs a lead.
In the 80th minute, SLU’s Cassie Barbaresi lofted a corner kick into the box and Line Pederson got her head on it to make the equalizer.
Saint Leo held a 24-14 edge in shots, including 11-5 on goal, but Barry’s Mikaela Barboza made a career-high nine saves to preserve the tie. Larose had three save for the Lions.
The Bucs return home to host the Northwood (Fla.) Seahawks on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 pm.
