MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Led by Stefanie Sveiven’s 15 kills and .750 attack percentage, the Barry University volleyball team blanked the Nova Southeastern Sharks in straight sets on Tuesday night in the Health & Sports Center.

In the first set the Bucs (9-2, 6-1) jumped out to an 11-6 lead. Sveiven had three kills and Nova committed five errors. Alicia Guerrero added an ace in the run. Nova (5-10, 2-5) fought to stay in it and scored 10 of the next 16 points to get within one at 17-16. Yet the Bucs remained strong down the stretch as Guerrero added another ace and Ady Alcanatra and Sveiven had a kill apiece to help the Bucs to a 25-19 win in set one.

Set two played out much like the first as the Bucs took a 14-7 lead in the early going. Nova scored three straight points off Buccaneer errors to get within four at 14-10. Barry used two three-point runs of their own to bring the set within reach at 23-16. The Bucs closed out the set with the help of a Shark error and an Alcantara kill.

In set three, the teams were evenly matched early before Nova stormed out to a 12-6 lead. Barry got within one point multiple times before tying it at 17-17 off a Sveiven kill. The Bucs closed out the set on an 8-1 run to win 25-18. Sveiven added two kills and an ace in the run while Lanie Muys and Alcantara had kills of their own.

Sveiven’s 15 kills led the Buccaneers while Alcantara had 10 and Teixiera had 7. Teixeira had three aces while Sveiven and Guerrero had two apiece. Milena Bukinac led the defense with 10 digs.

The Bucs return to action on Friday, October 8 when they host Tampa for a Code Red affair at 7:00pm. Fans who can’t make it out to the game can listen to the action live by visiting GameCentral.
