Women's Golf Closes Fall Season With  A Win At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—The Barry University women’s golf team fired a 314 in the second round to take the team title in the Flagler Fall Slam on Tuesday afternoon. The Bucs, who were tied  for first with Saint Leo after the first round,  posted a 311 in the first round and finished eight strokes better than the Lions to claim the title.
 
Two Barry golfers finished in the top ten to help lead the Bucs to the win. Elizabeth Over posted a nine-over 153 (75-78) to finish tied for second overall while Anne Fourdraine fired a ten-over 154 (79-75). To finish tied for fourth.
 
Taylor Babcock, who was tied for third after the first round, shot a 158 (75-83) to finish tied for 11th. Sophie Weilguni and Louise Perulf rounded out the Buccaneer players. Weilguni finished tied for 21st with a 162 (82-80) while Perulf shot a 164 (83-81) to finish tied for 28th.
 
Behind the Buccaneers, Saint Leo finished second with a 633 (+57). Newberry was third with a 638 (+62) while host Flagler was a stroke behind with a 639 (+58) in fourth. Lynn rounded out the top five with a 649 (+73).
 
With the win, the Buccaneer women’s team claimed their first team-tournament win since taking the title at Flagler in 2008.
 
“We’re very pleased and happy to have won this tournament, head coach Gina Umeck said.” We set a goal in to win one tournament in the fall and one in the spring, and so far so good.”
 
The Bucs do not return to action until the spring when they take part in the Tusculum Kiawah Island Women's Golf Invitational on Friday, February 4

FIRST ROUND RESULTS

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.-- The Barry University women's golf team completed action at the first round of the Flagler Fall Slam on Monday afternoon. The Bucs currently tied for first with SSC-rival Saint Leo. Both teams posted a 311 (+23) for the day.

Taylor Babcock and Lizzi Over led the way for the Buccaneers. Both players shot a three-over 75 in the first round.They are tied for third overall.

Anne Fourdraine posted a 79 (+7) to tie for 12th overall in the first round.

Sophie Weilguni and Louise Perulf rounded out the Buccaneer roster. Weilguni shot an 82 while Perulf is a stroke behind her with an 83. Weilguni is tied for 30th while Perulf is tied for 37th overall.

The teams return to action for the final round tomorrow morning.
