ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry men’s soccer team moved to a tie for first in the conference with a 1-0 win over Eckerd on Friday.

The Bucs’ lone goal came off the foot of Mark Anderson on a free-kick from 25 yards out at the 29:59 minute mark. Anderson teed up the kick and caught the Eckerd defense and keeper napping as he quick-kicked the ball around the wall and into the lower 90 past the surprised keeper.

“It was a little ragged,” McCrath said. “But we still played very good defense. All year our defensive third has been extremely solid and today was no different. Any time you can take a road-conference win it is huge no matter the team.”

Barry sophomore keeper Johnny Rodrigues tallied his 8th shutout of the year, tying his career-high set during his freshman campaign. Rodrigues posted six saves on the match.

Eckerd’s best opportunity to tie the game came 02:30 minutes into the second half. Anthony Arico took a shot from 35 yards out that knocked the bottom part of the crossbar.

The regular season finale for Barry is Sunday, Oct. 31 against Lynn at 6:00 p.m. at the friendly confines of Buccaneer Field. With a Barry win on Sunday and a Rollins loss on Saturday at Tampa, Barry could capture the SSC regular season title for the first time since 2002.

Radio coverage can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting just before kick-off. Click on the GameCentral logo at the Barry athletics home page to listen and view the live stats.
