MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s soccer team used a 5-0  shellacking of the Lynn University Knights  to claim the top seed, and the right to host, in the 2010 SSC Men’s Soccer tournament. Mark Anderson led the way for the Bucs with a hat trick while Sascha Koettig and Guilherme Oliveria chipped in on offense as well.

Koettig struck first with the game winner 06:18 into the first half. Mark Anderson had the assist to put the Bucs up 1-0.

The remainder of the first half remained relatively calm as neither team scored. The Bucs took seven shots in the first while Lynn only took two.

In the second half, the Bucs struck early and often, scoring three goals in a matter of three minutes. Anderson earned his seventh goal of the year at 48:08 when he slipped through three defenders and put the ball in the net to put the Bucs up 2-0.

Minutes later, Anderson struck again at 50:04 when Koettig slipped a pass through the Lynn defense and Anderson skated it past the goalie. The goal was Anderson’s eighth of the year.

Barry’s fourth, and perhaps most important goal of the night, came just 00:45 second later off the foot of Guiherme Oliveira. Anderson fed him a pass and Oliveira earned his second goal of the year to put the Bucs up 4-0.

At the 79:07 Anderson earned his third goal of the night, and ninth of the season, to give the Bucs the 5-0 lead.

With Barry’s win, the Bucs and Rollins College Tars share the 2010 SSC regular-season championship as both teams tallied 19 points for the year. The Bucs gained the tiebreaker and the No. 1 seed due tonight’s win over Lynn. The offensive outburst gave the Bucs a plus-10 goal differential in SSC matches, while the Tars finished the season with a plus-eight goal differential. This is the fifth time the Bucs have won or shared the SSC regular season crown.

The SSC tournament starts with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at campus sights. The semifinals will take place on Friday, Nov 5, and the championship game is on Sunday, Nov 7. Both games take place at Barry. As the top seed, the Bucs earn a bye in the first round and will play the winner of the #5 Nova Southeastern vs. #4 Tampa match on Friday.
