COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 52-49 to the Columbus State Cougars in the Lumkin Center on Sunday in women’s basketball action.
The Bucs (0-2), who trailed by as many 13 points in the second half, grabbed a 49-48 lead with 1:25 remaining on a steal and jumper by Danielle DeBerry.
But Columbus State (1-0) scored the last four points of the game on a basket by Marah Wright and two free throws by Dominque Gilbert, who had missed her first four shots from the line.
DeBerry led the Bucs with 12 points and Yvonne Houston and Adrienne Hicks each had 11. Gilbert led the Cougars with 12 and Tandria Milton had 10, all in the first half.
The Bucs play in the NSU Shark Invitational next weekend, facing Truman on Friday and Northwood (Fla.) on Saturday.
