MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 66-62 decision to the Barton Bulldogs in the Clemente Center at the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Classic on Friday.
The Bucs (1-4) led 60-59 with 2:21 remaining after an Evan White layup in transition, the Jaren Haley hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, the second with just 0:01 second left on the shot clock to give the Bulldogs (4-1) a five-point lead.
White led the Bucs with 19 points off the bench, while Willie Whitfield added 14 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Marvin Davis had 10 points. Haley led the Bulldogs with 14 points and Gerald Boston added 13.
The Bucs led by 10 points in the first half 34-24 after Whitfield’s layup with 5:52 left in the period. But on the subsequent possession, Whitfield picked up his second foul and the Bulldogs closed the period on a 12-2 run to knot the game at 36-36 at the break.
The Bucs take on Fayetteville State on Saturday at 2:00 pm to close out the tournament.
