Men's Basketball Falls to Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla.—Despite Willie Whitfield’s double-double, the Barry men’s basketball team came up short against the Rollins Tars 76-50 on Wednesday.

The Tars took the opening tip and landed a three from the right wing on the first possession of the game. The freakishly hot shooting continued for Rollins the entire game, shooting 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from behind the arc for the match.

In the first half the Rollins lead stayed around seven for most of the period until the 08:03 mark where the Tars went on a 16-7 run to close the first half and took a 37-23 lead into the break.

Rollins started the second half with a 16-4 run and took a commanding 53-27 lead with 13:21 to play. Barry did answer and trim the lead down to 18 at the 11:07 mark but the lights out shooting of Rollins was simply too much to overcome.

Whitfield totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one assists. Sophomore forward Bryan Van Cott ranked second on the team in points with 16. The pair combined for 34 of Barry’s 50 points.

Barry totaled a 38 percent mark from the field.

The Bucs waste no time as they prepare to host Florida Southern Saturday, Jan. 8 at 4:00 p.m. in their next game. Coverage can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting right before tipoff.
