Women's Basketball Narrowly Falls To Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla.—Despite a 15 point lead in the first half, the Barry women’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaker in a 59-58 loss to the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday.
 
Florida Tech’s Lynisha Nelson hit a runner with 00:08 seconds to play to give the Panthers a one-point advantage. Shanna Suttington drove the ball the length of the court but just missed on the scoop shot as time expired.
 
Yvonne Houston lead the way for Barry with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Danielle DeBerry and Jen Mitchell added 11 while Suttington and Nadia Tijani added nine.
 
The Buccaneers dominated the first half shooting 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc. After a Tijani layup with 03:16 to play the Bucs took a 34-19 lead. However, Florida Tech closed the lead down to 11 at the half on a jumper by Ashton McClairen as time expired in the first period.
 
Tech came roaring back in the second half, starting the period with an 8-0 run to cut the Barry lead down to three with 16:40 to play. The game went back and forth throughout the entire second half with three ties and five lead changes in the second period.
