MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Adrienne Hicks scored a game-high 17 points, including the game-winning basket with 0:00.5 seconds left, to lift the Barry Buccaneers to their first Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball win, 54-52 over the Lynn Fighting Knights in the Health & Sports Center on Saturday.
The Bucs (8-9, 1-6 SSC) led 52-49 with 0:55 second left after Hicks made a pair of free throws. But the Knights’ Quanisha Dixon sank a three-pointer from the top of the key with :30 seconds remaining to tie the game at 52-52. The Bucs ran the clock down and Hicks drove the baseline for the game-winner.
The Knights (8-9, 2-5 SSC) led most of the first half after jumping out to a 10-4 lead after the first five minutes. They led by as many as seven points on several occasions, including 18-11 at the 4:20 mark on a jumper by Amanda Schultz before the Bucs mounted a comeback. Barry tied the game at 20-20 on a lay in by Nadia Tijani with 1:00 left, but Chelsea Patterson sent the Knights into the locker room with a lead by draining a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Yvonne Houston added 10 points and seven assists in support of Hicks for the Bucs. Patterson led the Knights with 12 points and Marquis Lee added 11.
The Bucs host the Saint Leo Lions at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 26 in their next outing. Fans can follow the action live at GameCentral.
