DECATUR, Ala.—The Barry Buccaneers (1-3) split two games at the 2011 UAH Charger Chillout softball tournament at Wilson Morgan Park on Friday, beating Kentucky Wesleyan 3-0, but falling to second-ranked North Georgia 2-1.

In the opening game, sophomore pitcher Paula Mackin (1-1) tossed a complete-game shutout against the Panthers (0-1). She allowed three hits and three walks and struck out 10.

Alyssa Goldsmith provided the offense, going two-for-three with a double, triple and two runs scored. Brooke Asher had a two-run double in the fourth inning, while Emma Dunlap added an RBI single in the sixth.

In the second game, the second-ranked Saints (10-0) got in the board in the second inning when Sarah Johnson walked, stole second and third and scored on a ground ball to first base. Pilar Harden added an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Jessica Tabor got the Bucs on the board in the seventh inning with a two-out, RBI double that just missed clearing the fence in right field for a game-tying homer.

Brianna Smith (0-2) went the distance and struck out six, but took the loss. Sarah Phillips (6-0) struck out 11 to earn the win for the Saints.

The Bucs face the Lions of North Alabama and Delta State’s Lady Statesmen on Saturday. You can catch all the action on GameCentral.
