Men's Tennis Flies Through Golden Eagles

MELBOURNE, Fla.—The top-ranked Barry men’s tennis team defeated the DI Southern Miss. Golden Eagles 7-2 on Sunday.

Barry started off the match sweeping doubles. Max Wimmer and Quentin Vachez dropped the top Southern Miss. pair of Julien Roussel and Jan Burmeister 8-5.

In number two doubles, Emanuel Fraitzl and Marco Mokrzycki took an 8-3 win, over Paulo Alvarado and Jovan Zeljkovic and Simon Raagaard teamed up with Romain Costamagna and posted an 8-2 win to complete the sweep against Alex Doleac and Stewart Gammill.

#1 Fraitzl made quick work of the Golden Eagle’s top player, Roussel, in a 6-2, 6-3 win in singles play. Mokrzycki fell at number two singles 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) to Burmeister and Sergio Velez posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zeljkovic at number three singles. Vachez played in the fourth singles flight and lost to Alvarado 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.

Ollie Lemaitre took a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 win at number five singles over Doleac while Costamagna concluded singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the sixth singles flight.

Barry travels to Valdosta, Ga. in their next action for a rematch of the 2010 NCAA DII National Champions match against the #2 Valdosta St. Blazers. The dual is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m.
