CARROLLTON, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers took two more wins, extending their winning streak to 12 games, at the 2011 Wolves Invitational at the Carroll County Recreational Complex on Friday. The Bucs defeated Ohio Dominican 3-1 and North Alabama 8-2.
In game one, Cassy Zamora squeezed in Amber Durkin in the second inning and Jessica Tabor added a solo homer in the fourth. Alyssa Goldsmith’s RBI single in the fifth scored Sara Broeseker to complete the scoring for the Bucs (15-4).
The Panthers (1-6) scored in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Erin Sutter to break up Paula Mackin’s shutout bid. Mackin completed the game, allowing just the one unearned run on six hits and two walks and struck out six.
In the night cap, the Bucs exploded for eight runs in the first inning against the Lions (2-11), as
Brooke Asher connected for a three-run homer. Jessica Tabor added a two-run single and Natalia Ojeda and Grace Collins each knocked in a run.
The Bucs were one out away from ending the game in five innings on the mercy rule when UNA’s Natalie Harrison ripped a line drive over the fence in left center. The Lions added an unearned run in the sixth off starter Brianna Smith (6-3), who won for the sixth straight time. She allowed just three hits and two walks and struck out five.
The Bucs are scheduled to face West Georgia and Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, Mar. 5. The game have been moved up to 8:00 am and 10:00 am due to the threat of rain in the area.
