Men's Golf Finishes Second At St. Edwards

AUSTIN, Texas—The tenth-ranked Barry University men’s golf team moved up one spot from the second round to finish second of 14 teams at the Saint Edward’s Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Bucs posted an 879 (293-307-279) for the tournament. The Buccaneer’s third-round 279 (-5) was the best combined round for the tournament.
 
Abilene Christina took the win, firing a combined 877 (295-296-286). Following Barry, St. Mary’s finished third with a 895 (299-297-299). Cameron took fourth with a 909 (306-304-299), and Central Oklahoma rounded out the top five with a 920 (303-306-311).
 
Daniel Stapff fired a third-round 65, tied for the lowest of the tournament, to lead the Bucs with a 215 (75-75-65) overall. He finished in second place, four strokes back from individual winner Alex Carpenter from Abilene. Stapff’s third-round 65 ties the Barry University record for lowest round shot in a tournament.
 
Marcus Segerstrom made headway with a third-round 69 to finish the tournament in eighth place with a 221 (74-78-96. Chris Carlin was a stroke off of Segerstrom. He finished tied for ninth with a 222 (72-75-75).
 
Marcelo Huarte and Guillermo Pumarol rounded out the Buccaneer finishers. Huarte posted a 224 (75-79-70) to tie for 13th and Pumarol posted a 226 (72-79-75) to finish tied for 16th.
 
The Bucs return to action a week from now when they travel to Valdosta, Georgia for the Southeastern Intercollegiate.
 
DAY ONE RESULTS
 
AUSTIN, Texas—The tenth-ranked Barry University men’s golf team completed the first two rounds at the Saint Edward’s Invitational on Monday morning, playing at the Grey Rock Golf Club. After two rounds of action the Bucs are in third place with a 600 (293-307).
 
Abilene Christian leads the field with a 591 (295-296). St. Mary’s is in second with a 596 (299-297), a four-stroke lead over the Bucs. Central Oklahoma is nine strokes behind Barry with a 609 (303-306), followed by Cameron University in fifth with a 610 (306-304).
 
Chris Carlin led the way for the Bucs in the first two rounds. He is tied for seventh with a 147 (72-75) Daniel Stapff finished three strokes behind Carlin with a 150 (75-75). Stapff is tied for 12th overall.
 
Guillermo Pumarol posted a 151 (72-79) for the day, a stroke off Stapff, and is tied for 15th overall. Marcus Segerstrom posted a 152 (74-78) to tie for 32rd, and Marcelo Huarte rounded out the Buccaneer five with a 154 (75-79).
 
The teams return to action this morning. The first Buccaneer, Huarte, tees off at 9:30.
