PINEHURST, N.C.—The Barry women’s golf team withdrew from the Pinehurst Challenge on Tuesday after one player came down with the flu and another Buccaneer suffered an injury.

Taylor Babcock paced the Buccaneers with a three-round score of 161 and a team-low 77 for the third round. Babcock finished tied for 25th. Sophie Weilguni and Anne Fourdraine totaled a 163 and finished tied for 28th.

Lizzi Over and Lucia Garcia both withdrew from the tournament.

The next event for the women’s golf team is the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. hosted by Lynn on April 18-19.


Women's Golf In Seventh After First Round Of Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C.—After one round of the Wingate Pinehurst Challenge, the Barry women’s golf team sits in seventh place out of 18 teams with a score of 325.

Sophie Weilguni Leads the way for Barry after posting a first-round score of 77 (39-38) and is tied for 7th place. Lizzi Over tallied the second best score for the Bucs with an 80. Over currently sits tied for 16th.

Both Anne Fordraine and Taylor Babcock posted 84s while Lucia Garcia came in with an 85.

The Bucs are 13 strokes away from leader Newberry College. Two other Sunshine State Conference schools are in the Pinehurst Challenge. Saint Leo is second in the tournament with a first-round score of 319 and Florida Tech came in at ninth at 331.

Barry continues play in the Wingate Pinehurst Challenge tomorrow starting at 10:00 a.m.
