MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry softball team tallied three two-out runs in the top of the sixth to defeat the Nova Southeastern Sharks 6-2 on Friday.

Nova put pressure on the Bucs early with a run in the top of the first as Laura Saladrigas scored on a throwing error by Barry pitcher Brianna Smith.

Barry answered in the bottom of the second to tie the game as Smith made up for her fielding error by leading off the inning with a double to left field. With two out, Natalia Ojeda grounded a ball that was booted by the Nova second baseman to score Smith and knot the game up at 1-1.

Nova came right back in the third, collecting their only earned run off of Smith with Saladrigas scoring on a single to right by Katie Kelton.

After two scoreless frames, Barry posted the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. Sarah Broeseker started the rally with a two-out double down the left field line then crossed the plate on a Grace Collins single to center to even things up at 2-2.

Barry then blew things open in the bottom of the sixth with four runs on five hits. Jessica Tabor started things off in the sixth with a lead-off single through the left side. Shenique Rosario then pitch ran for Tabor. Smith laid down a sacrifice but that the Nova first baseman dove for but missed to put runners on first and second with no outs. Paula Mackin’s sacrifice bunt put her on base but Nova was able to oust the lead runner at third on the force. Amber Durken laced a single up the middle to score Smith and give Barry the 3-2 lead. Then with two outs, Ojeda looped a single into center field to score two Barry runs and take the count to Barry 5, Nova 2. To cap things off in the sixth, Broeseker ripped a triple to right field to score Krystal Ramos who pinch ran for Ojeda.

Broeseker finished the day 3-4 and a home run away from hitting for the cycle. She added one RBI as well. Smith went 2-3 with two runs scored while Ojeda was 1-3 with a team-leading two RBIs. Five of the Buccaneer six runs came with two outs.

The next game for Barry is Saturday, April 2 as the Bucs play a double header against the Sharks starting at 1:00 p.m. Live coverage can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
