Women's Tennis Surrenders Only One Match in the Win Over Rollins

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The fourth-ranked Barry women’s tennis team continued their stellar play on the season with an 8-1 conference win over the #9 Rollins College Tars on Saturday to move to 15-0 on the year and 6-0 in conference play.

The Buccaneers started the day with a sweep in doubles play. The top Barry pair and #2 nationally-ranked combo of Barbi Pocza and Angie Werschel defeated the Rollins team of Margaret Junker and Kayli Ragsdale 8-6.

At number two doubles, the pair of Laura Boguet and Alex Gwizdowski took an 8-6 win over the Rollins team of Lisa Loft and Stefania Tkach and rounding out doubles play, Julie Stas and Olivia Matuszak grabbed a decisive 8-1 win over Ashley Rosenberg and Allie Steele at number three.

Barry then proceeded to capture all but one singles match. At the top doubles flight, #8 Pocza defeated Roshni Luthra 6-1 in the first set before Luthra was forced to retire. #33 Werschel checked in at number two singles and fell to #17 Junker in tie-break third set. Werschel lost the first set 7-5 then came back in the second set to take a 6-3 win. In the pro set, Junker took the 10-5 win to grab the only point of the match for the Tars.

Matuszak rolled through Loft 6-2, 6-2 at the third singles flight and Caroline Wendling cruised through Tkach with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number four. At number five singles, Boguet collected a three set win over Mariana Salvador, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 and Mona Mansour easily defeated Rosenberg 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth singles flight.

The next match for the Bucs is Monday, April 4, against rival #3 Lynn at 3:00 p.m. in the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
